Final day TT for 2011 Tour of Britain
A decisive 10km time trial in London will kick off the final day's racing in the 2011 Tour of Britain (September 11-18).
The morning's race against the clock on Sunday September 18 will be followed by an 80km criterium stage around Westminster - upping the number of stages to nine spread over eight days.
The inclusion of a longer individual time trial on the final day will change the dynamic of the race, and could favour riders such as British Sky trio Bradley Wiggins, Geraint Thomas and Alex Dowsett. It will also serve as the perfect warm-up event for the World Championships in Copenhagen, which commences the day after the ToB finishes (September 19).
The official launch of the 2011 Tour of Britain route will take place in London tomorrow.
This year's UCI 2.1-ranked ToB will start on Sunday September 11 in the Scottish Borders and Dumfries and Galloway, and finish in Westminster, London, on Sunday September 18.
Six Proteams have been named as taking part in this year's race: Leopard-Trek, Garmin-Cervelo, HTC-Highroad, Rabobank, Vacansoleil and Sky.

Nigel Wynn worked as associate editor on CyclingWeekly.com, he worked almost single-handedly on the Cycling Weekly website in its early days. His passion for cycling, his writing and his creativity, as well as his hard work and dedication, were the original driving force behind the website’s success. Without him, CyclingWeekly.com would certainly not exist on the size and scale that it enjoys today. Nigel sadly passed away, following a brave battle with a cancer-related illness, in 2018. He was a highly valued colleague, and more importantly, an exceptional person to work with - his presence is sorely missed.
