Goss and Lancaster head London Nocturne start list

Australian professionals Matt Goss and Brett Lancaster have been confirmed for Saturday (June 9) evening's IG London Nocturne elite criterium.

Goss won a stage of the Giro d'Italia in May, and last year won Milan-San Remo. He also has stage wins in Paris-Nice, Tour of California, Tour of Oman, Tour of Britain and Tour Down Under in his impressive palmares.

Lancaster's decade in the professional ranks has seen him take Olympic gold and world titles on the track as part of Australia's team pursuit line-up, and win a stage of the Giro d'Italia and the Tour of California among others.

The Aussie Orica-GreenEdge duo line up as part of eleven pro teams in the elite criterium alongside British-based WorldTour outfit Team Sky and the cream of British talent.

Team Sky will field Ian Stannard and Davide Appollonio, plus one other rider. Stannard recently finished the Giro d'Italia with a strong 11th place in the final time trial. Appollonio comes to the event from the Tour of Luxembourg, where he finished the last stage with a third place.

In last year's London Nocturne, Sky rider Alex Dowsett sensationally lapped the rest of the field to take a fine solo win.

The Elite criterium is part of an extensive programme of events run during the evening, including a support Kermesse race, penny farthing race, folding bike race and fixed gear longest skid competition. It's free to watch the racing.

Highlights of the event will be shown on Channel 4 at 7am on Saturday June 16.
