Happy St David's Day from Cycling Weekly!
"Dydd Gwyl Dewi hapus" or Happy St. David's Day from Cycling Weekly, after what has been a tremendous week for Welsh cyclists.
Abergavenny's own Becky James was the toast of the town last weekend with four medals at the World Track Championships in Minsk, while Cardiff's Elinor Barker picked up a gold medal of her own in the team pursuit.
Risca's Sam Harrison claimed a silver medal in the team pursuit while fluent Welsh speaker Owain Doull, also from Cardiff, rode the madison in what was his first senior world champs experience.
Of course Cardiff boy Geraint Thomas was also busy last weekend, fine tuning his Classics form with a fourth place ride in Omloop Het Nieuwsblad before returning home for Sunday roast after Sunday's Kuurne-Brussels-Kuurne was cancelled.
Later in the week he teamed up with Luke Rowe, from Newport, for an aggressive ride at Wednesday's GP Le Samyn. Rowe spent a cold and foggy day in the escape, finally getting caught with 12km to go, Thomas immediately jumping clear with Ian Stannard and lasting until within 2km to go.
Don't forget Amy Roberts, 19, making her Wiggle-Honda debut in the women's Omloop Het Nieuwsblad last Saturday.
Next week's Cycling Weekly will be finding out what makes Wales such a hotbed of young cycling talent, so don't forget to pick up a copy on March 7.
