CAVENDISH TAKES TOB SPRINTS JERSEY ON ROAD TO KENDAL
Britain?s Mark Cavendish (T-Mobile) is in the thick of the action on stage five of the Tour of Britain between Liverpool and Kendal.
The Isle of Man sprinter joined the early break of ten riders that formed after just three miles, with Geraint Thomas (Barloworld), Alex Dowsett (Great Britain) and Kristan House (Navigators) also in the move.
Dowsett and House were dropped early on but after winning two intermediate sprints, Cavendish attacked with Alexander Serov (Tinkoff) after 45 miles. They opened a three minute lead and Cavendish took the lead in the Hot Spot sprints competition by winning the third sprint at Hornby.
Behind Las Bak (CSC) crossed to the five chasers with the bunch following two minutes further back. If the Cavendish and Serov stay away until Kendal they will also fight it out for the stage win on the 400-yard uphill finish. Victory would give Cavendish his third stage win in this year?s Tour of Britain.
