EASTWAY TO MEET OLYMPIC PLANNERS
EASTWAY Users come face to face with the Olympic Delivery Authority planners at a public meeting on Thursday (May 24), in a bid to improve the plans for the Olympic Legacy Velopark, which has shrunk to less one third of its original size.
?We are delighted to have an opportunity for the Olympic planners to consult with the users for whom the legacy plans are meant to be intended,? says Michael Humphreys, chair of Eastway Users Group (EUG).
He hopes there is still time to build a velopark which meets their needs, which replaces what was taken out when the site was cleared to build the Olympic Park.
That means a dedicated 6km competition off-road course and a challenging road race circuit. At present, the plans for the seven hectare site, cut down from the original 34 hectares, include a 6000-seater Velodrome, BMX track, a basic road circuit and only a 950-metre off road course.
Eastway Users presented a 1,983 signature petition to the Mayor of London calling for a full reinstatement of all the Olympic disciplines.
Venue: Bethnal Green Methodist Church, Approach Road, Bethnal Green, E2 9JP. Meeting starts 7pm.
