HULL CLUB CELEBRATES CENTENARY WITH TWO SPORTIVES
This year is the 100th birthday of Hull Thursday Road Club, and to celebrate the club has organised two 'Big G' cyclo-sportives on Saturday August 2, 2008.
Based around the medieval market town of Beverley, competitors have a choice of either 100 kilometre (62 miles) or 100 mile (161 kilometres) routes around the rolling Yorkshire countryside. The hundred mile route includes many of the classic climbs which feature in the East Yorkshire Classic Premier Calendar event and in the 2006 National Road Race Championships.
The entry fee for both events is £20, this includes registration, souvenir T-shirt, two feed stations and after-ride food and refreshments.
The two events are part of the East Yorkshire Classic cycling weekend (August 1-3, 2008). Full details of all these events are to be announced later.
Hull Thursday get their unusual name from a group of Hull bicycle shop employees who would spend their Thursday afternoons off riding around the Yorkshire Wolds. A hundred years later, and the memorable name still continues.
