Leicester Monarchs cycle speedway club hit by vandals
Vandals spread paint on walls, furniture and floors of Leicester Monarchs cycle speedway club, burn out kitchen and take a bike and PA equipment
Leicester Monarchs cycle speedway club was hit by vandals last Wednesday, with the clubhouse suffering £6,000 worth of damage and several items stolen.
It is thought that intruders entered the club's premises in Frog Island, Leicester, through the roof, before spreading tins of paint on walls, furniture and floors, the Leicester Mercury reports.
The kitchen suffered severe fire damage after the vandals placed paper on the top of the hob and turned up the electric rings. A speedway cycle and personal address equipment was also stolen.
"It's the damage they have caused which has really hit us," club secretary Tim Jarvis told the paper. "The bike won't be any use to them because it doesn't have brakes or gears because it's for speedway cycling. The PA equipment can be replaced.
"They set fire to the kitchen and that's completely wrecked. They also threw paint all over the place. Everyone is upset but we're not going to let it beat us."
The club is appealing for food to serve to visitors to the team.

Nigel Wynn worked as associate editor on CyclingWeekly.com, he worked almost single-handedly on the Cycling Weekly website in its early days. His passion for cycling, his writing and his creativity, as well as his hard work and dedication, were the original driving force behind the website’s success. Without him, CyclingWeekly.com would certainly not exist on the size and scale that it enjoys today. Nigel sadly passed away, following a brave battle with a cancer-related illness, in 2018. He was a highly valued colleague, and more importantly, an exceptional person to work with - his presence is sorely missed.
