Stars turn out for 2015 Milano-Torino: start list
Full start list: Historic Italian single-day race Milano-Torino attracts top field of riders including Daniel Martin, Fabio Aru, Thibaut Pinot and Richie Porte
Today's Milano-Torino boasts an impressive start list. The first of the three historic races included in the Italian trittico di autunno (autumn triptych) boasts roll call of starters than includes the likes of Vuelta a España winner Fabio Aru (Astana), freshly-minted time trial world champion Vasil Kiryienka (Sky), Irish 2014 Il Lombardia winner Daniel Martin (Cannondale-Garmin) and French Grand Tour contender Thibaut Pinot (FDJ).
Sky's Richie Porte makes one of his final appearances for the squad before the Australian jumps ship to BMC Racing in 2016.
Milano-Torino was first run in 1876, making it one of the oldest cycle races in the world. It is followed on the calendar by GranPiemonte on Friday and Il Lombardia on Sunday, the latter being the final WorldTour race of the 2015 season.
As the name of the race suggests, it starts on the outskirts of Milan (San Giuliano Milanese) and takes a 186km route westwards to Turin, where the riders tackle two ascents of Colle di Superga, with its 9.1 per cent average gradient. The final ascent is to the finish line, providing a tough finale.
Last year's edition of the UCI 1.HC-ranked Milano-Torino was won by Italian Giampaolo Caruso (Katusha), who does not ride this year after being suspended for failing a test for EPO.

Nigel Wynn worked as associate editor on CyclingWeekly.com, he worked almost single-handedly on the Cycling Weekly website in its early days. His passion for cycling, his writing and his creativity, as well as his hard work and dedication, were the original driving force behind the website’s success. Without him, CyclingWeekly.com would certainly not exist on the size and scale that it enjoys today. Nigel sadly passed away, following a brave battle with a cancer-related illness, in 2018. He was a highly valued colleague, and more importantly, an exceptional person to work with - his presence is sorely missed.
