Visconti wins Luxembourg sprint, Stannard 6th
Giovanni Visconti (ISD-Neri) won the bunch sprint at the end of the first road stage of the 2010 Tour de Luxembourg on Thursday.
Visconti out-paced Yauheni Hutarovich (Francaise des Jeux) and Borut Bozic (Vacansoleil) to clinch the stage.
Britain's Ian Stannard (Team Sky) placed a creditable sixth after Sky sprinter Ben Swift was forced to withdraw from the race due to back pain.
Frenchman Cyril Lemoine (Saur-Sojasun) took over the general classification from team-mate Jimmy Engoulvent, who won the opening prologue on Wednesday.
Lance Armstrong (RadioShack) moved up from fifth to third overall, one second behind Lemoine. The seven-times Tour de France winner is using the race as preparaion for the Tour de France in July.
The five-day Tour de Luxembourg concludes on Sunday, June 6.

Briton Ben Swift had started the stage well, but suddenly experienced severe back pain during the stage and could not continue.
"Ben started to feel problems midway through the stage but his back really went bad when we hit a cobbled climb towards the end," said Sky directeur sportif Marcus Ljungqvist.
"It was too bad because his legs were feeling great, but his back just locked up."
Swift, who took Sky's first stage race victory at the Tour de Picardie in mid-May, later said on his Twitter feed: "Bad day at the office today. Was a perfect finish with a short climb about 4k to go had good legs. When something went bang in my back."
With Swift out, Stannard was then nominated to take up the bunch sprint for Sky and came home in sixth.

Nigel Wynn worked as associate editor on CyclingWeekly.com, he worked almost single-handedly on the Cycling Weekly website in its early days. His passion for cycling, his writing and his creativity, as well as his hard work and dedication, were the original driving force behind the website’s success. Without him, CyclingWeekly.com would certainly not exist on the size and scale that it enjoys today. Nigel sadly passed away, following a brave battle with a cancer-related illness, in 2018. He was a highly valued colleague, and more importantly, an exceptional person to work with - his presence is sorely missed.
