WIGGINS TO RIDE OTLEY CRIT
Fresh from racing in the Giro d'Italia, Bradley Wiggins has signed up to ride the Otley Crit on June 26.
World and Olympic track champion Wiggins will join fellow Olympian Chris Newton in the criterium race, part of British Cycling's Elite Circuit Series. Wiggins was most recently seen riding to a phenomenal fourth place in the final time trial stage of this year's Giro d'Italia after three hard weeks of racing.
Rapha-Condor-Recycling rider Newton has won the Otley race twice before, in 2001 and 2003, and is last year's Premier Calendar Series champion.
Otley organisers are also hoping to attract Wiggins' High Road team-mate Mark Cavendish, himself another former winner of the Otley race in 2005.
Otley Cycle Races take place on Thursday June 26 2008 from 7pm. The race circuit is based on Bondgate, Otley town centre, West Yorkshire. Admission is completely free for spectators.
