Oliphant takes win in Ayrshire Alps Classic

Evan Oliphant had that winning feeling again after sprinting to victory in the Ayrshire Alps Classic on Sunday.

The Team Raleigh man, recently crowned overall winner of the Premier Calendar, continued his superb season by beating Andrew Hawdon and Scott McCrossan to the line in Girvan.

This is the third time that the 31-year-old Scot has won the 81-mile race, held in memory of David Bell.

In Buckinghamshire, Ben Stockdale (Metaltek-Knights of Old) was crowned winner of the MKCA Corley Cycles Two-Day.

He won stage three on Sunday to overhaul overnight leader Jake Hales (IG Sigma Sport) by five second.

In Yorkshire, the Sportscover Classic Road Race took to the streets of Sharlston near Wakefield and it was Adam Duggleby that recorded the win.

With only 15 miles of the 82 gone, a lead group had already started with seven riders building a clear lead away from the pack.

Although two more managed to bridge the gap on lap four, the peloton was gone and it was just a matter of which of the nine would cross the line first.

The gap was more than eight minutes by the final lap and the lead group was whittled down to four. But it was Duggleby of Wheelbase Altura MGD who took victory in the sprint.

Another man in form is Hope Factory Racing's James Gullen. The 23-year-old racked up his latest win at the weekend as he stormed to the line in round 16 of the CDNW League.

This was his 16th podium finish of the season and he completed the win in style as he left second-placed Michael Ashurst trailing behind. By the time Gullen crossed the line, he had a gap of 1:15.

Tony Gibb dominated the Après Shake Up as he survived a crash to reclaim the lead and cruise to victory.

The 37-year-old fell from his bike and ripped his shorts but dusted himself down and stormed back to the head of the race.

With 15 minutes to go, Gibb took off with Graham Crow in tow. Although he never opened much of a gap over his chaser, the result never looked in doubt.

It was a weekend to remember for James Welsby who took second place in a time trial on Saturday before winning a road race on Sunday.

The 22-year-old Londoner is only in his first year of racing and admits that he only took up cycling through boredom.

But he is showing great potential and after clocking the second fastest time of the North Hampshire RC 25-mile TT, he went on to ride to a solo win in the SERRL Summer Series event in Brenchley. By the time he crossed the line, he had built up a lead of more than a minute.
