Oscar Freire to ride Mallorca 312 sportive
Three-time road race World Champion Oscar Freire will ride the Mallorca 312 sportive on Saturday, April 27.
The event, which unsurprisingly takes place on the Spanish island of Majorca, comprises a 312-kilomtere lap of the island, making it a strong bidder for the claim of being the longest one-day sportive in Europe.
Freire retired from professional cycling at the end of the 2012 season having won a host of races during his long career including Ghent-Wevelgem, Milan-San Remo, Paris-Tours and Brabantse Pijl along with his three world titles.
Fellow former Spanish pro cyclists Pedro Horillo, Joseba Beloki and Fernando Escatin are also due to ride in the event. Marcel Wust, Andrea Tonti and Joan Horrach will join them.
Many of the riders that travel to Majorca for the event will take on the full 312-kilometre (194 miles) lap of the island, but a shorter 167km (104 miles) route is also on offer.
Entries are still open for the event, which costs €65 for the 312km route and €55 for the 167km. Accommodation is still available at the event's official hotel, Iberostar Playa de Muro. Entry includes an event cycling jersey, T-shirt and access to a pre-event pasta party.
