UK Youth extend Tour Series advantage in Aberystwyth
UK Youth made it back-to-back victories in the Pearl Izumi Tour Series in Aberystwyth last night to open a two-point gap over Raleigh in the overall standings.
The Welsh seaside town was where the fledgling team picked up their first ever round victory in 2012, and they placed four riders in the top 10 to cap a successful week following Tuesday's win in Stoke-on-Trent.
Ed Clancy (Rapha-Condor-JLT) sprinted to the individual victory - the third year running a rider from John Herety's team has triumphed in Aberystwyth - on a circuit modified by organisers to ensure heavy winds could not wreak havoc on the action.
Clancy won from a four-man group which broke away early on, and almost lapped the field before the finish.
Chris Opie (UK Youth) came second here for the third year running, Alex Blain (Raleigh) placed third with Clancy's fellow GB team pursuiter Andy Tennant (Madison Genesis) taking fifth.
Top-10 finishes from Jon Mould (seventh) and Niklas Gustavsson (eighth) gave UK Youth the team win, just ahead of Madison Genesis, who continue to impress on their Tour Series debut.
Metaltek-Knights of Old finished fifth to continue their strong start to the 2013 event, while Spin Rotor-Primal C-Originals placed ninth after three rounds of proping up the ranking.
