You can trust Cycling Weekly.
Kryptonite’s considerable reputation precedes it, and its flagship Kryptonite New York M18 bike lock did not disappoint.
Plastered in approval stamps and stickers (including Gold ratings for cycle and motorcycle security), this bike lock means business — as you’d discover were you to drop it on your foot.
But it is still well worth taking out some specific bike insurance – whatever the security rating – as no lock is ultimately unbreakable. This way, should the worst happen, you will at least be covered.
Its leverage-resistant 18mm shackle is an accommodating 260mm long which means it can be used on nearly every awkward shaped frame and bike rack combination. What's more the key action is butter-smooth and there is even a natty keyhole dust cover and LED keylight - great when used at night or in the low light of a winter's day.
This product is at the higher end of the price range for bike locks, but you certainly get what you pay for. As with many locks, the unit's weight (2.7kg) can be both a positive and a negative: great when in action but less good when lugged around.
