Cycling Weekly Verdict

The confidence on display in my son’s riding is undoubtedly due to the design and geometry of the Prevelo Alpha Zero. Its handling and quality build has set him up perfectly to progress onto a pedal bike. Plus it's red like Lightning McQueen from Disney's 'Cars'.

The adage of never working with children or animals couldn't be truer in this case. After three months of testing the Prevelo Alpha Zero balance bike, all my three-year-old has to say is, “It's fast because it's red like Lightning McQueen.” Lightning McQueen is a character from the Disney film, Cars, for the uninitiated. For most toddlers, this is likely all they would want to know, but let me reassure you parents, there is more to this little bike.

Prevelo is a high-quality children's bike brand based in California. It’s born out of the experience of one man - Jacob Rheuban - teaching his kids to ride bikes. After observing his kids getting faster, falling off and getting back up, Rheuban decided he wanted to inspire more confidence in his kids to want to ride more and push themselves. His approach was to put geometry first, something that is often forgotten in the pursuit of low weight, rolling resistance, and aesthetics.

Ecomm and Tech Writer

Like so many, Matt got his start in the bicycle industry wheedling allen keys and the occasional hammer at his local bike shop. Matt grew up mountain biking in the flint-strewn hills of the North Downs, but was convinced during his time with Evans Cycles' in-house brands Pinnacle and Hoy Bikes to take up gravel cycling and bikepacking. Spotting the changing industry, Matt jumped at the opportunity to become an E-bike designer, and won several awards with Cairn Cycles and their range of gravel E-bikes.

These days, Matt will more than likely have a toddler sat shotgun and a balance bike lassoed to his back somewhere on the South Downs. What time he does get to ride for himself, he chooses to take his Sonder Camino to just about anywhere that's quiet, off the beaten track or with some historical point of interest.
