The Terra C 5800 Hydro blurs the lines between adventure bike and road bike, “removing the distinction between road and trail” in East Sussex brand Orro’s words.
The ‘C’ means carbon: a lightweight carbon frame ensures the Terra handles like a road bike, but critical areas are protected from rock strikes by Orro’s trademarked Innegra shielding, a very tough, very flexible fibre, for when it swings off the beaten track.
There’s clearance for big-volume 42mm tyres or 38s with mudguards. The frame also has rack mounts for traditional rough-stuff touring or for carrying your gear on your commute.
The Terra C is designed with what Orro calls New UK Adventure Geometry, which it says is to accommodate the emerging styles of UK riding. This means extra stability with a 50mm fork rake across all sizes, while the chainstays lengthen incrementally (420mm in S, M; 425.5mm in L and 450mm in XL).
The mountain bike-style sloping top tube provides plenty of standover height, allows for extra seatpost flex for rear-end comfort as well as giving your knees enough room in off-road manoeuvres.
Orro has used the BB86 Shimano press-fit bottom bracket standard, which means extra material at the bottom bracket shell for better power transfer.
As is expected of a modern multi-purpose bike like this, the Terra C is built for disc brakes with 12mm thru-axles front and rear.
This spec features a full Shimano 105 groupset with hydraulic disc brakes and Fulcrum R700 wheels. For our winter
road build we’ve equipped it with 32c Continental Gatorskin tyres and full-length mudguards.
The finishing kit consists of tried-and-tested 3T bar and stem and Orro’s own Super Lite seatpost topped off with a Prologo Kappa RS saddle.
